EWA ON YOUR SIDE

License Assistance? Be Forewarned!

Many EWA members are contacting us expressing concern over email and other communications they are receiving from a variety of organizations using scare tactics and warnings of the dire consequences if you fail to respond to their communications regarding license renewals and construction notifications. One such organization known as License Watch, even went so far as to warn an EWA member that their license was "non-compliant and subject to termination", but for a fee exceeding $790 (exclusive of FCC fees), that they could correct the deficiency.

Of course, the only information that was accurate in the solicitation was the licensee's call sign. Other organizations using similar techniques include Business Radio Licensing, Federal Licensing Services and Universal Licensing Services. EWA members obviously may conduct business with anyone they choose, but if you receive suspicious correspondence from an unfamiliar organization, and have any questions regarding the accuracy of their claims regarding your FCC licenses, immediately contact EWA for verification and an accurate response. Save your hard earned money!

EWA Praises Innovative FCC Policy on Single Entity Rep for 700 MHz PS Broadband Network

EWA supports the Commission's proposal to assign a license to a single entity representative of all public safety interests to promote a broadband network, noting that it represents pioneering policy making on the FCC's part.

Only 24/7/365 Monitoring Will Do

How much monitoring is enough to prove that a licensed radio system is non-operational? Evidently, for one solid year, according to a January 22nd decision from the FCC regarding Radio America (Pennington) against Mayer Reprographics Inc (Mayer) on station KNGK514. In their decision denying Radio America's petition, the FCC indicated "although it is conceivable that Station KNG14 was non-operational for a period of time, Pennington bears the burden to demonstrate prima facie that the station was non-operational for at least a year or more."

EWA Examining Mobile Only Certification

The FCC agreed with EWA that center coordinates may be used for mobile only coordination. This issue was raised with EWA by the FCC in an interference matter in Las Vegas, NV. The FCC had requested justification why EWA hadn't used coordinates at the edge of the mobile only system's area of operation.

Receive a Notice of Violation? Call EWA First

EWA member Timberline Communications contacted EWA for assistance regarding a Notice of Violation received by a California city prompted by report of harmful interference from a city data system to Timberline on 457.400 MHz, a channel primarily designated for voice.
